Requirements in Ontario

How to get licensed before you apply

In Ontario you must hold a valid licence before you can work as a security guard. The licensing system is set by the Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005 (PSISA) and overseen by the Ministry of the Solicitor General; licence applications are processed by ServiceOntario.

Requirements can change, so confirm the details on Ontario.ca before you register for training.

  1. Be 18 or older and entitled to work in Canada

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and legally entitled to work in Canada.

  2. Complete 40-hour basic training

Take an approved basic security guard course of at least 40 hours, including emergency First Aid and CPR certification. If you already hold a valid First Aid/CPR certificate from St. John Ambulance or a WSIB-approved provider, you may be able to opt out of that portion. Your trainer then gives you a training completion number.

  3. Pass the provincial test

Use your completion number to book the Ontario security guard test: 60 multiple-choice questions in 75 minutes, taken online or at select DriveTest centres.

  4. Meet the record requirement

The province requires a clean criminal record (or a pardon or record suspension) and a valid Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check, submitted with your licence application.

  5. Apply to ServiceOntario & keep it current

Apply online or by mail. Licences are issued digitally and expire two birthdays after they’re issued; you can renew up to 90 days before expiry.

Hiring Process

From application to first shift

Five stages, kept simple. Timing depends on openings and on how quickly your paperwork is ready.

  1. Apply online

Submit your details and the roles and cities that suit you through the careers page.

  2. Conversation

A call or meeting about your experience, availability and the kind of posts you want.

  3. Licence & papers

We confirm your security guard licence is active and collect the documents needed to start.

  4. Site orientation

You learn the site’s written post orders, reporting tools and who to call before you work alone.

  5. First shift

You start on the post, with the 24/7 desk a phone call away whenever you need support.

What Working Here Can Offer

Opportunities, not slogans

We’d rather describe the work honestly than promise perks. Here’s what a role with a GTA-wide, around-the-clock security agency opens up.

Shifts across the GTA

With sites in more than ten cities and coverage running 24/7/365, there’s a chance to find posts and hours that fit where you live and when you can work.

Training on every post

Each site comes with written, site-specific post orders, and you’re walked through them so you know what’s expected before you’re on your own.

Variety of sites

Condo lobbies, retail floors, construction gates, warehouses, events and patrol routes — room to discover the kind of security work you’re best at.

A path to grow

Guards who show reliability and good judgement can grow into mobile patrol, site lead and supervisory responsibilities as those openings come up.

Learn loss prevention

The company was built by people from asset protection and loss prevention, so the craft of noticing — and reporting — is taught on the job.

Modern reporting tools

Digital shift and incident reports with photos replace paper logs, building skills that carry into any security career.

Applicant Questions

Before you apply

Straight answers to what job seekers ask us most.

Can I apply while I’m still finishing my security training?

You can reach out, but you can’t be scheduled until you hold a valid Ontario security guard licence — the law requires the licence before you work a single shift. Finish the 40-hour course, pass the test, apply to ServiceOntario, then send your application with your licence details.

Do I need previous security experience?

Not always. Newly licensed guards can be a good fit for many static posts, where post orders and orientation cover the specifics. Roles like mobile patrol and concierge usually suit people with some customer-service, driving or security background.

Which cities would I be working in?

Our sites are spread across Toronto, Peel, York and Halton. Tell us where you live and how you travel, and we’ll look at posts that make sense for your commute.

How do I apply?

Use the application form at the bottom of this page. Include your licence status, the roles you’re interested in and your general availability.
